Em encontro no sábado, 27, em Belém, com a secretária do Tesouro dos EUA, Janet Yellen, e o presidente do Banco Interamericano de Desenvolvimento (BID), Ilan Goldfajn, o governador do Pará, Helder Barbalho, falou sobre a importância de mecanismos internacionais financiarem iniciativas para a preservação da Amazônia.
“Peço que os Estados Unidos assumam a responsabilidade de liderar os financiamentos necessários e as modelagens no âmbito internacional para permitir o combate às mudanças climáticas, a transição energética, a prioridade de um mundo com emissões zero e, para isso, a solução passa por um aporte relevante e histórico aqui na Amazônia, pois investir aqui é investir no futuro de toda a humanidade, de todos os continentes, de todo o planeta”, destacou o governador do Pará.
Em resposta ao governador, a secretária do Tesouro informou que os Estados Unidos estão avançando em uma aproximação com o Governo Federal dialogando com o ministro Fernando Haddad e estudando posiciones e iniciativas, principalmente, voltadas ao crédito de carbono.
Na sexta-feira, 26, Haddad, e Yellen assinaram um novo acordo de cooperação climática. A “Parceria pelo Clima”, como foi batizada, tem como objetivo destravar os financiamentos público e privado para a ação contra a crise climática e a perda da biodiversidade, abrangendo temas como energias renováveis, resiliência das cadeias de valor, integridade de mercados de carbono e conservação florestal.
De acordo com o texto, “a Parceria pelo Clima ajudará a desenvolver políticas e liderará reformas em instituições internacionais em que ambos os países são partes interessadas, de forma que os capitais público e privado sejam mais eficiente e efetivamente empregados para enfrentar os desafios climáticos mais urgentes”.
O acordo estabelece quatro pilares para a parceria Brasil-EUA: cadeias de suprimento de energia limpa; mercados de carbono de alta integridade; finanças da natureza e da biodiversidade; e fundos climáticos multilaterais. Neste sentido, o documento sinaliza que os dois países pretendem explorar esses temas em fóruns multilaterais como o G20, as reuniões anuais do Banco Mundial e do Fundo Monetário Internacional (FMI).
“Desde o início do governo Biden, temos trabalhado para aumentar a colaboração com o Brasil em prioridades compartilhadas relacionadas ao clima e ao ambiente. O Brasil colocou essas questões no topo da agenda de sua presidência do G20, e juntos temos dado continuidade em um trabalho ambicioso”, afirmou Yellen durante a apresentação do acordo.
Já Haddad destacou os princípios e os valores comuns entre Brasil e EUA e o esforço conjunto bilateral para fortalecer a resposta global contra as crises ambientais. “O que nós decidimos de comum acordo é estreitar os laços e dar visibilidade a essa aproximação. No contexto atual, é um passo essencial para ser o exemplo para a construção de um mundo melhor”, disse o ministro brasileiro.
